Of mice and me, go oft astray.
More precisely, my hard drive took a rather serious powder (can that phrase actually be used that way?) and I have been sans computer since... Oh about May 28th or so.
My lovely friend had a spare hard drive lying about and sent it to me, so yay for that! Now I just need to buy a new operating system, since Dell is douchey and only sends recovery discs but not actual OS discs when you buy from them (which, I will most likely not be doing again) and I can't find the gorram things if my life depended on it (thanks to having most of my stuff packed up and stored in the garage because of the current living situation).
How then, pray tell, are you posting right now, little miss I-have-no-computer-woe-is-me?
Simple answer, I'm hijacking the honey's computer and finally decided that since there doesn't appear to be an immediate change to the status quo, that I will bow to the inevitable and just suck it the hell up. I don't actually need my keyboard to type on, even though his is really odd and kind of annoying in that, too-damn-many-extra-buttons way that gaming keyboards are.
There's that and the fact that it's been almost a month since I updated and I really didn't want to keep putting off getting back in the swing of things.
I know the world is overjoyed.
So, still on the subject of the hard drive. I tried freezing it to see if I could retrieve the info (a whole butt ton of stuff I am really sad to lose) and save myself the dejection of having to start my novel all over again (yes, I know it was all of 2k words, but darn it, that's 2k words I have to rewrite), not to mention the sadness of all the pictures I had of my kiddo on there (however, I believe they can all be recovered by poking the boy's dad, so life is probably good in that regard), and having to restart my Sims Medieval game.
Since freezing didn't work, after the appropriate mourning period (about a week for those of you wondering), I restarted my Sims game yesterday. So today, I'll very likely restart the book. By hand. That should be all kinds of fun goodness. I can't write nearly as fast as I can type, which I can't do nearly as fast as I can think, but it's a darn sight closer to speed than handwriting.
Well, foolish woman, why not just start typing it on the honey's computer as you are currently, clearly, doing right now?
Good question. Sadly, without an actually good answer. Lots of reasons, I suppose. His desk isn't as comfy. It's higher and cuts into my arms in a funny place when I type. I am not on friendly terms with his keyboard. His monitor is just too gorram big. It's actually bigger than my TV was before he moved in with me.
So yeah, I'll be starting over Meep (my current working title, cause I couldn't come up with bupkis) in some of the various spiral notebooks that I have. Which will ultimately be a fantastic excuse to buy more of them as well as my precious bic crystal stick pens. Yes, I know that there are other fancier things out there, but I have a special love of both spiral notebooks and crystal sticks. No, I can't explain it. Yes, I also have big girl pens and big girl journals, but this isn't a journal so stuff it.
As an aside, which has no logical segue from the previous thought and so is brought to you as a sidebar: Summer is well and truly underway here in SoCal and I hate it. Loathe, revile, and otherwise despise it. It's sunny and hot and gross and I miss winter and clouds and cold. So come on Autumn and thank goddess that Midsummer has come and gone!
We're skipping the usual end of blog post list today. I just don't feel like going back to a previous entry to copy it over right now. We'll see it again tomorrow.
